The Pilotwings – Psytube
Animals Dancing - ANIMALS 006
Zouk-loving Gallic eccentrics The Pilotwings have been relatively quiet since wowing the world with their deliciously Balearic, '80s-influenced debut album "Les Portes Du Brionnais" in 2016. In fact, this outing is only their second release of note since. There's a wonderfully intergalactic, out-there feel to chugging opener "Trance En Aubrac", where synthesizer flute solos and sparkling electronic washes ride a chunky bassline and swinging, electro-influenced drums. "Futur Glouglou" sounds like it could have appeared on the soundtrack to a low-rent, acid-fuelled early '80s sci-fi film, while "Yakado" is a throbbing, floor-friendly re-make of an obscure Japanese dancefloor workout from the tail end of the '80s. If that lot's not bonkers enough for you, feel free to check the impossible-to-pigeonhole brilliance of closing cut "Gig In The Ocean".
